exposé for: „Abi ‘89“
Twenty years after reunification of Germany, Berlin authors Ralf Graumann and Birthe Templin have gone on investigation. Together with the Dutch photographer Geert Snoeijer, they are on the trail of twenty different life stories from the very last high school class of the former East German Republic. The photo book, "Class of '89," is thus the portrait of a generation that aims to tell the personal story of twenty protagonists from the "reunification generation." Childhood and youth spent under socialism, the turbulence of the reunification in 1989, and reaching maturity in the reunified Germany will be explored in essay form and will show a picture of East Germany that was only seen by those who, in their best years, either actively supported its collapse or watched it happen in disbelief.
